Compassion for Greyhounds -- Michigan's Greyhound Adoption Specialist

Application (found here): An adoption application can be completed online or you can contact us and we will send you one via snail mail. Complete the application and return it to CfG.
Application Review: We will review your application and an Adoption Specialist will contact you. We will answer any questions you may have. After receiving your application and making initial contact with you, we will check your personal and vet references. After references are completed, the Adoption Specialist will contact you to schedule a home visit at a time convenient to all.
Home Visit: During the home visit, the adoption counselors bring a greyhound or two to visit so that you and your family have the chance to interact with a greyhound in your own home. These visits are necessary so that you can see what it is like to have a greyhound in your home and it gives us the opportunity to talk with you one-on-one about the joys of adopting a retired racing greyhound.
Application Approval: If your application is approved, the Adoption Specialist will speak with you about what type of greyhound would do best in your home. We will talk with you about different personality types and what you are looking for in your new family member.
The Wait: The adoption process can take from 2 - 6 weeks. If we currently don't have a greyhound that would be a match, we will have to wait until we get the right dog for you.
A "senior discount" applies to all greyhounds adopted that are over the age of 7

Please keep in mind that not all individuals or homes are right for a retired racing greyhound. Submitting an application to Compassion for Greyhounds is not a guarantee that you will be approved to adopt a greyhound.
