After Chloe and Perky spent a couple of days with Aunt Gen and got to eat raw, I am convinced this is the way to go. Any of you who know Miss Chloe, know that her breath greets you well before she does. Her teeth are down right nasty! Dr. Nash said we need to get aggressive in order to maintain her long term health. Well, lets see how she does. I'll post some before pics of her teeth, then we can monitor her progress. Eventually, I'd like all the pups on raw, it's just so much more healthy. Today she had chicken backs, gizzards and pumpkin, yum, yum! She was one happy camper! Thanks so much Gen and Jill for helping me with this! _________________ Laura, Larry-Dog, Perky, Daisy Mae, Bones The (invisible) Cat, John the Husband and Chloe The Three Legged Wonder Dog |

Wonderful Laura!! Keep me posted on how it goes. I'm ordering 2 cases of backs tomorrow. That's 80# so let me know when you need more! All of mine are officially eating Raw for a month now. They love it!! The only one who i think might be protective of it is Merlin, although is protection is towards the other dogs. Even Chenell doesn't guard it. Certainly is the answer!
If anyone else is interested in trying raw or switching over, let me know. East Michigan folks can order from Jill and West Michigan folks can get it from me (via Jill).
Here is to healthy clean teeth! _________________

It's funny you mention teeth. I was just looking at Harley's teeth the other day and couldn't believe how much better her teeth look than the GH's. Even Inky who is still young and just had her teeth done not too long ago. I keep thinking I need to switch to raw, but I guess I'm worried about a) storing it, b) getting it, and c) the messiness/work of feeding it. Can you guys give me a brief rundown on preparing your meals and how you store it? It would be really hard for me to get to either Jill or Gen all the time. Any other suggestions? _________________ Kristina

HI! It certainly makes a difference...
I store eveything in the deep freeze in the garage. I pull out a ziplock storage container of whatever I'm feeding for the day the night before. Thaw them in the sink overnight and after morning feeding, toss it in the fridge.
It really isn't messy. Of my crew, Brooklyn, Merlin & Sassy now eat in their crates. I have a dish that hangs on the side of the crate and they wait patiently for their meal. If they get it on the bedding - not a big deal. We wash periodically any way. You could pull out the bedding and chlorox sheet the tray of the crate after every meal or toss an old towel in there. The other 3 eat by their bowls. They do take the bigger Raw Meaty Bones (RMB) to an old dog bed to eat. I chlorox sheet the eating area and the counter top after each meal. Wash your hands well with soap and water along with the dishes and you are good to go.
A typical meal for my pups is 80% RMB (chicken backs, necks, frames, turkey necks, duck necks, etc.). The remaining 20% is made up of organ meat, veggies, fruit, cottage, cheese, yogurt, etc.
Kristina, getting it might not be as hard as you think. Call your local meat markets and see what they carry in organ meat and RMBs. I get ground from Jill. Everything else I get locally... I could also meet you in Kzoo to get stuff to you, if need be.
Feeding multiple dogs is more work than feeding one. But... certainly worth it. _________________
